IELTS BAND SCALE
What is IELTS Band Scale?
IELTS is evaluated using a standardized band scale, where each band reflects a distinct level of English proficiency. Scores are given in either whole or half bands.
The nine bands are described as follows:

9 Expert User
Demonstrates complete mastery of the language, using it accurately, appropriately, and fluently. Achieving this score is extremely challenging.
8 Very Good User
Exhibits a full command of the language, making only occasional, unintentional errors and omissions. Handles complex and nuanced arguments with ease.
7 Good User
Has a strong command of the language, though there may be some errors, inappropriate usage, or misunderstandings in certain situations. The individual understands complex reasoning and can manage sophisticated language.
6 Competent User
Despite some errors, inappropriate usage, and misunderstandings, typically demonstrates a good command of the language. In familiar contexts, the individual can use and understand fairly complex language.
5 Modest User
Has a limited grasp of the language, dealing with overall meaning in most instances, but is prone to making errors. The candidate must be capable of handling communications in his or her specialty.
4 Limited User
Basic competency is restricted to circumstances that are familiar. Has regular difficulties with sophisticated language.
3 Extremely Limited User
In very familiar situations, can convey and understand only the general message. Communication breakdowns occur frequently.
2 Intermittent User
Except for the most basic information using isolated words or brief equations in familiar contexts and to address immediate demands, no true communication is possible. Has a hard time understanding spoken and written English.
1 Non User
Has essentially little capacity to utilize the language beyond a few isolated words.
